TERRY DOUGLAS MCGREGOR
Born: May 20, 1950
Date of Passing: Feb 16, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTERRY DOUGLAS MCGREGOR (CHUNKY) May 20, 1950 - February 16, 2015 Terry has continued his journey. To continue his memories are his wife Arlene, their sons Reid (Kim) and Ryan (Macara), his grandchildren Bain, Holly and Dalton, his mother Marion, his sisters Betty and Cindy, his mother-in-law Jean, his brother-in-law Glenn (Debra), and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Terry was born in Carberry, MB. He loved his days as a farm child. Leaving home at the age of 17, Terry soon settled in to a career as a police officer. He retired in 2000 after 28 years of service, achieving the rank of Deputy Chief of Police and having served a brief term as Acting Chief. He loved his career and would often still be driving a cruiser car in his dreams. His boys were the love of his life. He coached them in both soccer and hockey as they grew up and never missed an opportunity to watch them play as long as he could. Terry had a great love for all sports. In 2008, Terry was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He faced his illness head on, always maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humour. Terry loved his life and was delighted to become "Grandpa T" and see the birth of three amazing grandchildren. The McGregor family would like to give special thanks to all of the wonderful doctors, nurses, volunteers and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, as well the Palliative Care team, with special thanks to Dr. J. Gingerich, Dr. R. Hayward, Dr. B. Martin and nurses Shannon and Jennifer. Thanks also to all those who walked with us - Ridgewood and Texas friends, family, friends, neighbours for all of the care and support over the past seven years. A private family interment will be held shortly. A celebration of life will be held in the spring on April 18, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Southwood Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Prostate Cancer Canada.

Terry and I worked together in a cruiser car in St James and then he went on to the vice division. Later we took courses together and managed to stay in touch on the job. Then we moved to Lorette and we got to know his sister, Betty quite well. Terry was just a good guy to have around. Always helpful, never critical and if you had a face of stone you wouldn't keep it for very long around Terry. Last I saw him was in Texas a few years ago. I knew he had been sick but he seemed to have pulled through it and was in good spirits. It was a bit of a shocker to me that he had relapsed and now I learn that he has passed. The world is a sadder place without him. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Denis Robert (Co-worker) on: Apr 08, 2015

Back in the early 80's the civilian staff at WPS had to reapply for our jobs. It was a very stressful time for us all. Terry was the Sgt in detectives and he coached myself and my partner for the interview process. He was very helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. My partner and I were the successful applicants of our own permanent positions. Crazy!. Terry was such a funny guy. He always had great family stories especially after the twins were born. i will never forget the hilarious stories of the crazy dalmatians. I never met you Arlene or your children but I 'm sure you know how much Terry loved and cherished his family. So sorry for your loss. R.I.P Terry. - Posted by: debbie johnson (WPS civilian member) on: Mar 14, 2015

Terry was a real friend. He enjoyed a laugh and more so enjoyed making others laugh. He loved his family above all and would often 'entertain' us around the coffee table relating a story or two about his and Arlene's twins. He will be sorely missed by so many because he touched so many. Sincere condolences to Arlene and all the family. - Posted by: Gary Walker (Colleague) on: Feb 22, 2015

We send our deepest condolences to Arlene and the “boys” and the rest of Terry’s family, I will miss my friend but the memories of the times we shared will live with me forever. It was always good times and humour that I will remember, from our early times on the job to the updated stories of the grandchildren and all the adventures we had in between. It was obvious to anyone that knew him how much he loved his family and how proud he was of his boys. He was good man, a good policeman and I was proud to call him my friend. - Posted by: Darcy & Jamie Jones (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2015

Back in 1973-74, Terry and I both worked at Maple Leaf Mills Limited. We also belonged to the company 5 pin bowling league. Terry often spoke about wanting to be a police officer and joined the police force at that time. When I would see him, I'd ask, "So, what did you learn in police school today?. Occasionally, he'd show me some take-down moves. I moved to Vancouver in 1974 and Terry visited in 1975. He even stayed with us and used my wife's 1967 Ford Mustang convertible to sight see on Vancouver Island. I've lived in Mississauga, Ontario since 1977. It was a pleasure knowing you, Terry.
